Which Type of Facelift is Best for You?

A facelift is a facial rejuvenation procedure aimed at helping you achieve a more refreshed and younger-looking you. Facelifts are popular antiaging treatments among middle-aged individuals who desire to reverse the visible signs of aging on the face and neck.

As we age, our skin wrinkles and sags especially around the eyes, and along the neck and jawline. Our cheeks lose volume making the once beautiful and prominent high cheekbones appear flat and aged. A Facelift in Dubai can reduce the sagging skin along your neck and jawline and also restore the youthful contours of your cheeks.

There are different variations of a facelift and each is tailored to meet your specific individual facial concerns. Your Plastic Surgeon together with you will assess the aging-related changes on your face and recommend the cosmetic procedure that best suits you.

Types of Facelifts

There are different facelift techniques available, and while your Plastic Surgeon will advise you on the technique that will work best for your facial volume, skin type, neck, and jawline, it is best to know what each option entails before your consultation.

Below are the various types of facelift techniques.

SMAS Facelift

The SMAS facelift, also known as the traditional facelift or full facelift treats moderate to severe signs of aging on the face and neck and results in you looking up to 10 years younger.

A full facelift can rejuvenate the whole face and neck as it will get rid of your wrinkles, marionette lines, droopy jowls, and sagging cheek lines as it restores your cheek’s perkiness. Additionally, the SMAS facelift can contour the chin and jawline and tighten the whole neck.

During the procedure, your Plastic Surgeon will make an incision on both sides of your face starting at the temple along the hairline, in front of the ear, around the earlobe, and a little back along the hairline. He/she then releases the skin from the underlying SMAS, fat, and muscle, and pulls the deep tissue and SMAS up to a perky natural position. This ensures that the platysma (neck muscle), and the whole face are lifted, wrinkles and lines are smoothed and flattened plus any sagginess are tightened.

Deep Plane Facelift

The deep plane facelift goes deeper than the SMAS facelift as it works along the nasolabial folds which are thought to be superior. It uses the same incisions as the SMAS facelift and they can be placed depending on the area that needs lifting. This can be done in the mid-face, lower face, or neck. It is also common to have a neck lift or submental fat removal during a deep plane facelift.

The goal of the deep plane facelift is to correct jowls, marionette lines, double chins, and mid-face sagging. The results can last about 10-15 years.

Endoscopic Facelift

An endoscopic facelift is a minimally invasive surgical procedure. It is a great option for those who are bothered by the appearance of their flat cheeks or individuals with moderate imperfections caused by loose facial muscles and fatty tissue in those areas. An endoscopic facelift focuses on the skin around the cheeks, eyes, and forehead. This technique is not done on individuals who require the removal of excess fat and skin, repositioning of the underlying muscle, or a fat transfer.

The endoscopic facelift involves a Plastic Surgeon making a small incision through the lower eyelid area or via the temple. He/she will work around the upper facial area and once he/she is done the incisions are closed without removing the skin except in the lower eyelid area which generally requires skin to be excised.

The goal of the endoscopic facelift in Dubai is to correct facial sagging by focusing on the upper part of the face. This facelift technique is often combined with eyebrows rejuvenation. The results typically last about 10-15 years.

Mini facelift

The mini facelift restores a youthful appearance by rejuvenating the jowls and cheeks. It involves using a smaller incision for the suspension of the SMAS. Unlike the traditional facelift, the incision of the mini facelift may not extend into the hairline behind the ear or as far as the temporal region.

Through the short incisions, the SMAS layer is lifted along with the subcutaneous tissues. The goal of the mini facelift is to correct jowls, marionette lines, midface sagging, and double chins. The results can last 5-10 years.

Liquid facelift

The liquid facelift is known for its simplicity, time efficiency, and non-invasive nature. This is because it uses injectables such as Botox and fillers which are injected into the face targeting the problem areas. Most of the serums used usually contain hyaluronic acid, which helps in collagen production and promotes skin elasticity.
