What does the recovery after breast augmentation look like?

Breast augmentation involves increasing the size of the breasts by inserting implants or conducting fat transfer. It is typically pursued by women who wish to attain a pleasing and more feminine figure. Breast augmentation serves multiple purposes. It improves the appearance of the breasts, corrects asymmetry, and restores breast volume. However, it is important to note that breast augmentation is an invasive procedure which requires some downtime.

Hence, patients often wonder whether its results are worth the extensive recovery. Like any procedure, taking care of your body after breast augmentation is essential to ensure successful results. This blog will discuss everything patients can expect during the postoperative period of breast augmentation in Dubai.

How does breast augmentation work?

Breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that aims to enhance the shape and size of the breasts. This can be achieved by using breast implants, or by transferring fat from a donor site into the breasts.

Breast Implants

There are two main types of breast implants: saline implants and silicone implants. Saline implants are filled with salt water, while silicone implants are filled with silicone gel. Saline implants are better suited to patients who want dramatic results from their surgery. Silicone implants, on the other hand, provide more natural-looking outcomes.

Augmentation approaches

· There are two main incision sites for breast augmentation: the inframammary fold and the periareolar region. The inframammary fold is the natural crease below your breast. The periareolar region is situated around the areola, which is the dark circle around the nipple.

· There is another approach to breast augmentation which provides scar-less results. Endoscopic breast augmentation involves transaxillary (under armpits) or transumbilical (around the belly button) incision that remain well-hidden while allowing the practitioner to place the prostheses in the breasts.

· Patients who wish for ales invasive procedure with more natural-looking but subtle outcomes can also opt for fat transfer. This type of augmentation involves removing fat from your abdomen, thighs, hips, or back. The extracted fat is then purified, and injected into your breasts. The fat cells are reabsorbed into your body over time, and become part of your breast tissue.

What is the recovery period of breast augmentation like?

It typically takes about two weeks for individuals to recover from a breast augmentation. During this time, they may notice some swelling and bruising – this will resolve itself with time. Patients are also expected to wear a compression bra to support their breasts and minimize swelling. It is normal to experience some pain and discomfort at first, which can be managed with pain medication.

Here is the complete recovery timeline for breast augmentation:

· Day 1-3: The patient is discharged from the hospital following their surgery. They will require someone to drive them home and stay with them for the initial few days. The patient will also be given pain medication and antibiotics to take at home. In addition, they must wear a compression bra at all times.

· Days 4-7: The bruising and swelling will start to slowly subside during this time. Patients may still experience some pain, but it should be manageable with the given medication. They may also begin to shower, but should avoid getting the incisions wet.

· Weeks 2-4: The swelling will continue to go down during this time. Patients should be able to return to work and resume their daily activities. However, any intense physical activity must be avoided

· Months 3-6: The swelling will fully go away by this time. Patients will be able to fully observe the final results of their breast augmentation.
