 Is eyelid surgery very painful?

Eyelid lift, also known as blepharoplasty, removes excess skin from the patient’s eyelids to make them look bigger and more youthful. Every cosmetic procedure comes with some discomfort, but eye-related surgeries may seems to be especially daunting.

It is natural to worry whether the benefits outweigh the risks of operating such a sensitive region. However, anesthesia and expert instructions provided by your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon can help you sail through the whole process without having to bear any significant pain or discomfort.

If you are considering blepharoplasty in Dubai, you must know what this surgery entails. This blog will discuss the eye surgery procedure and the discomfort you can expect following it.

What is eyelid surgery?

Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that targets lax skin around the eyes. As we age, our eyelids begin to sag due to loss of skin elasticity. This can lead to the appearance of furrowed eyebrows, droopy upper lids and severe eye bags. It is common for patients with sagging eyelids to struggle with low confidence and self-esteem. This phenomenon may increase their perceived age, and make them look unapproachable in social settings.

Drooping skin around the eyes can also impair the patient’s peripheral vision. This issue is most prevalent in the top and outer regions of your visual field. Blepharoplasty is also ideal if you wish to address vision-related problems. Additionally, the procedure may give your eyes a youthful and more alert appearance.

Is this procedure painful?

Although eyelid surgery is an invasive process, patients should expect little pain. Your Plastic Surgeon will induce anesthesia before the surgery begins to ensure you experience no pain.

This procedure does not require any deep cuts, and will only affect the topmost layer of your eyelid. In fact, most eyelid surgeries are performed in a single day since they are minimally invasive. The entire surgical procedure may only take two hours to complete.

Blepharoplasty recovery is also brief, with patients being able to return to work within a few days. If you do experience discomfort, over-the-counter painkillers will help. Patients can also use a cold compress to relieve swelling or discomfort following the surgery.

Procedure

Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure that takes up to two hours. The Plastic Surgeon may induce general anesthesia, or opt for local anesthesia if the target area is small.

The surgical procedure for blepharoplasty depends on the patient’s specific concerns. If skin laxity is severe on the upper eyelid, the Surgeon draws an incision along the fold of the eyelid. He then removes any excess skin, muscle, or fat through this incision. Once the procedure is complete, he shuts the incision with sutures.

To treat sagging skin on the lower eyelid, an incision is made below the lashes or inside the lower lid. Similar to the upper eyelid, he removes skin, fat, and muscle to create a fresher look for the patient. The incisions are then closed using sutures.

If your upper eyelid droops near the pupil, blepharoplasty can be paired with ptosis. Ptosis is a procedure that lifts and reduces extra eyelid skin.

Expected Benefits

There are several aesthetic and medical benefits to expect from eyelid surgery. Some that patients will notice after this surgery include the following:

·         Goodbye to the tired look caused by eye bags
