Are there any risks involved in breast augmentation with fat transfer?

Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery that accentuates your breast profile by adding natural-looking volume to it. It is no secret that the “hourglass figure” has become the new standard of beauty in today’s world. This can be achieved with full, perky breasts that are harmonious with your figure. If you’re looking to enhance the size of your breasts, fat transfer technique can be highly effective. This procedure delivers profound result, thus boosting the patient’s self-esteem.

If you’re considering breast augmentation in Dubai, your Plastic Surgeon will typically present two options to choose from. These are breast augmentation with fat transfer and augmentation through implant placement. This blog will discuss the fat transfer technique and the risks and benefits it entails.

What is breast augmentation with fat transfer?

Breast augmentation with fat transfer enlarges the breasts by injecting fat harvested from other areas of your body. This technique utilizes fat in the thighs, abdomen, buttocks, or upper arms to add volume to the breasts. Once fat is obtained from the donor site, the Practitioner purifies it to separate unwanted material. This purified fat is then gradually injected into your breasts.

The fat transfer technique produces more natural outcomes than implants. It is also less invasive, and leaves minimal scarring once the patient has recovered.  Given that the patient's own body provides the injected fat, there is no allergy risk associated with this surgery.

Potential Risks

Like every other surgery, breast augmentation with fat transfer comes with certain risks and limitations. Risks of a fat transfer breast augmentation include:

  • Bleeding and bruising after the surgery
  • Fat cell death, also known as necrosis
  • Infection
  • Noncancerous (benign) breast cysts

However, you can easily overcome these risks by consulting a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who specializes in breast augmentation techniques.

Why do people opt for a breast augmentation?

Patients can undergo breast augmentation with fat transfer for many reasons. These include the following:

·         Improving the appearance of the upper body

·         Correcting uneven or asymmetrical breasts

·         Offering a confidence boost to the patients

·         Giving patients the ability to wear their desired clothing

Expected Benefits

There are several aesthetic benefits that come with the fat transfer approach for breast augmentation. Patients can expect these benefits following their breast augmentation:

This technique uses body fat as opposed to saline or silicone. Hence, there is no risk of rejection or noticeable scars.

While other implants might eventually need to be replaced, fat transfer offers permanent results.

Since fat is obtained from another area of your body, this technique can offer a slimmer figure

Alternative techniques such as implants are not as customizable as fat transfer.

The incisions for fat transfer are minimal, hence it leaves no scars.

Procedure and Recovery

Breast augmentation through fat transfer is typically an outpatient procedure. Before beginning the procedure, your Plastic Surgeon induces general anesthesia. This is done so the patient feels no discomfort during the surgery.

The Plastic Surgeon then harvests fat deposits from various parts of your body using liposuction. This extracted fat is placed into a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins this fat, and cleans it of any impurities. Your Practitioner then injects the pure fat cells into the tissues of your breasts using a cannula.

How quickly you recover from fat injection relies on how many donor sites your doctor uses. For at least a week, you will observe swelling and bruising in those regions. After surgery, there may be some soreness for two weeks. In approximately a week, you will be able to go back to work. While mild swelling can last for up to six months, the majority of bruising and swelling should go gone in approximately three weeks.
