Am I the ideal candidate for buccal fat removal surgery?

Buccal fat removal surgery, also known as buccal lipectomy, is a cosmetic procedure that slims down the cheeks by extracting your buccal fat pads. This procedure can help create a more defined jawline and cheekbones, and give the face a slimmer, more contoured appearance.

Buccal fat removal surgery is typically performed on people who have full, round cheeks that they would like to contour. It is also highly effective for people who have asymmetrical cheeks, or who have lost weight but still struggle with excess skin or fat in their cheeks.

Whatever your reasons may be, it is important to know whether you are an ideal candidate for buccal fat surgery before pursuing it. This blog will discuss what you can expect from buccal fat removal in Dubai and whether or not this cosmetic procedure is the right one for you.

Who is an ideal candidate for buccal fat removal surgery?

Most individuals wish to determine whether or not they can undergo buccal fat removal surgery to target their full cheeks. Here are some of the factors that make someone an ideal candidate for this procedure:

· Having good general health and an active lifestyle:

Buccal fat removal surgery is not a very invasive procedure, but it is still important for the patient to be good health overall. Individuals must also have a stable weight, and no health conditions that may lead to complications during or after the procedure.

· Keeping realistic expectations:

Patients looking to undergo this surgery must have realistic expectations about its outcomes. It is important to remember that buccal fat removal surgery will not alter the appearance of your face. It will only address the excess fat located in your cheeks.

· Having high volume of cheek fat:

This is because if you already have a thin fat layer, removing the buccal pad may end up giving you a gaunt and unattractive look. Therefore, patients with visibly big fat pads should go for the procedure.

· Having a symmetrical face:

People with any form of facial structure can choose to undergo buccal fat removal surgery. However, this procedure is typically more effective on people with symmetrical faces.

· Being a non-smoker:

Patients who smoke cannot pursue buccal fat removal surgery, since smoking can delay healing. If you wish to undergo this surgery, it is important to quit smoking beforehand.

If you are considering buccal fat removal surgery, you should consult a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to discuss whether you are a good candidate. They will assess your needs and formulate the best treatment plan for you.

The Procedure

Buccal fat removal surgery is typically performed in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia. The Surgeon begins by drawing a small incision in the inside of the cheek, where your buccal fat pads are located. He or she then uses this incision to reach the buccinator muscle, and applies gentle pressure to “pop” the fat pads out of your cheek. Once this is done, the Surgeon uses a cannula to remove the excess fat. The incisions made are then closed with stitches or sutures.

The procedure typically takes about 30 minutes to an hour, and there is no need to stay in the hospital overnight.

The Recovery

The recovery from buccal fat removal surgery is typically very quick and easy. Patients will experience some swelling and bruising at first, but this should resolve itself within a few days. You may also have some numbness in your cheeks, which will subside during the initial weeks after the procedure.

Patients must avoid strenuous activity for a few days after the procedure to promote healing. However, you will be able to return to work and your normal activities within a week. In the first few days following the procedure, consuming a liquid diet will prevent damaging your incisions. It is recommended to gradually incorporate soft foods into your diet after the first week.
