Does a breast lift increase firmness?

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a cosmetic procedure that elevates your breasts to enhance your aesthetics. If you have recently experienced pregnancy or are in the early stages of ageing, your concern may be sagging breasts that sit too low on the chest.

Although this change is natural, it can greatly impact women’s confidence and discourage them from wearing their desired clothing. This procedure can restore your breasts’ youthful shape and tone, thus bringing dramatic results. If you’re considering a breast lift in Dubai, here is everything you should know about this cosmetic surgery.

Why do people get a breast lift?

With time, women’s breast can lose their firmness and elasticity. This effect can make them unable to withstand the pull of gravity. As a result, the breasts begin to visibly droop or sag. Some causes of sagging breasts include:

·         Ageing

·         Genetics

·         Pregnancy

·         Significant weight fluctuations

·         Breastfeeding

A breast lift effectively counteracts these problems by making the breasts appear youthful and firmer. This procedure can also improve concerns such as uneven breasts, downward-facing areolas and asymmetrical nipples. However, it is important that the patient maintains realistic expectations. Although a breast lift can add firmness to the breasts, it will not enlarge the breasts or provide a fuller appearance. Increased size can only be achieved through breast augmentation through implants or fat transfer.

Who is an ideal candidate?

Women who are non-smokers and in good health can safely undergo mastopexy. This procedure is highly effective for patients with breast that fall below the breast crease when unsupported.

It also offers dramatic results if you have breasts that have sufficient volume but are lying flat. A breast lift can improve the appearance of the areolas; you may choose it if your nipples or areolas point downwards or if your areolas are enlarged. However, a thorough consultation with your Plastic Surgeon can also help determine whether this procedure is ideal for you. Procedure

A breast lift is typically performed as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia. The procedure takes no longer than an hour or two, but this depends on the concerns being addressed.

Once the patient is sedated, the Plastic Surgeon preps the skin by making incisions on the surgical areas. He or she then creates an incision – this depends on your breasts and the changes required. Major types of incisions made during a breast lift include:

·         A crescent-shaped incision along the top half of the areola

·         An incision extending from below the areola to the lower breast region

·         An incision along the crease under the breast

The Plastic Surgeon then removes and repositions the breast tissue to achieve the patient’s desired look. He tightens the muscles of this region by lifting them higher and sewing them in place.

The Practitioner may also reposition the nipples and areolas if required. Finally, they remove and trim away any excess skin, tissue, or muscle on the breasts. The incisions created are then closed with sutures or surgical adhesive.

The Plastic Surgeon additionally applies bandages to minimize swelling and support the breasts during the recovery period.

Recovery

The healing period for mastopexy varies from patient to patient. Your Plastic Surgeon will provide a surgical bra to support the breasts while they heal.  Drains may be placed in the incisions to remove excess fluid during recovery. Patients can experience soreness in the first few days following a breast lift.

However, adhering to the Provider’s aftercare instructions will alleviate this discomfort. This includes avoiding intense physical activity and not raising your arms above your head. Your Plastic Surgeon will remove any stitches after 2-3 weeks.

Your breasts typically immediately adopt their new contours following surgery. However, full recovery can take several months.
