Here’s Your Guide to Nose Reshaping Surgery

Nose reshaping surgery, also known as rhinoplasty, is a complex cosmetic procedure that aims to change the shape, size, and projection of your nose to achieve a more balanced and aesthetically appealing look. It is performed by Plastic Surgeons to address both cosmetic and medical issues related to the nose.

Nose reshaping surgery in Dubai works to achieve a symmetrical nose that is often pointy, narrower, and smaller in the case of female patients, and bigger when it comes to male patients. The surgery can be modified to meet the unique expectations of the individuals and give them a proportionate appearance.

Types of Nose Reshaping Surgery

Nose reshaping surgery can be of two types:

·         Open Rhinoplasty: The incision is made on columella which is the tissue that connects the nasal tip to the base of your nose. The incision is visible and gives Plastic Surgeons better visibility and precision.

·         Close Rhinoplasty: Internal incision is made through the lower cartilage or the junction of the lower and lower cartilage to restructure the tissues. Closed rhinoplasty do not leave visible surgical scars.

Expected Benefits

One can expect the following cosmetic benefits from the nose reshaping surgery:

·         Improved nasal projection – projection is the extent to which your nose sticks out from your face

·         Reduced dorsal hump – it is the bump on top of your nose which gives it an irregular appearance

·         Redefined nasal tip – the bulbous and extra pointy tip is sculpted to make it smaller and sharper

·         Contoured alar rims – alar rims are responsible for giving your nose its width and are resized during rhinoplasty

·         No more deviated septum – a crooked nose, which is caused by a deviated septum and a curved bone, is corrected

·         Improved breathing – septum correction during rhinoplasty can ease breathing by freeing the nasal passages

·         Improved sleeping quality – snoring is stopped and sinus problem is reduced by straightening the bone and cartilage

·         A comprehensively modified nose – nose reshaping surgery give you an altered nose in terms of size and shape

Procedure of the Surgery

The process begins with a detailed consultation session with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who studies the anatomy of your nose and identifies treatment options. During consultation, the whole procedure of rhinoplasty is explained along with its recovery period, expected outcomes, and possible side effects.

Nose reshaping surgery is performed in an outpatient setting, under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. The whole procedure takes about 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the extent of corrections required.

On the day of the surgery, nasal region is made numb with an anesthetic which usually contains lidocaine and epinephrine. Plastic Surgeons may also shave nasal hair to aid maneuvering during the process.

Next, incisions are drawn inside or outside of the nose depending on the type of surgery being performed. The skin is then lifted to expose the underlying structures and mold cartilage, bone, and skin of the nose to give it a new look. Once readjustments are done, the incisions are closed and changes are fixed with the help of absorbable sutures.

Post-operative Care

At the end of surgery, a splint is added to the nose which is removed after one week. Painkillers are prescribed during healing period to relieve the pain and discomfit.

Plastic Surgeons advise their patients to take the following measures to ensure a smooth recovery and successful results:

·         Avoid wearing glasses for a few weeks

·         Keep your head in an elevated position for the first 6 weeks

·         You can apply ice or cold compress to the cheeks and the surrounding areas of the nose to relieve pain, but not directly over the nose

·         Avoid smoking and alcoholic intake as both can impair the healing process

·         Avoid blowing nose or lifting heavy weights as it can put pressure on your nose

Length of Recovery Period

It takes about 2 weeks for the swelling and puffiness to tone down. However, some level of swelling and bruising stays for 3 to 6 months and subside gradually. Most patients can resume daily activities after 3-4 weeks as the readjusted bone and cartilage becomes stable by then.

You are allowed to perform heavy activities once a month has passed since the surgery. To sum up, you get a completely redefined nose, with permanent results, in a matter of 9 to 12 months.
